Essay / Overview of Firewalls - 932
I read articles and had a solid understanding of OVERVIEW OF FIREWALLS A firewall is basically a security feature that prevents our systems from being attacked. That is, it acts as a wall between our system and remote attackers and makes it difficult for attackers to attack. It is a set of related programs located on the network gateway server that protects private networks from any other network users. . This is a set of rules that determine whether packets are safe or not. It protects against viruses, worms and hackers that attempt to attack the network via the Internet. Every computer in the world needs a firewall because it plays a major role in keeping the computer network secure and against attacks. There are two main types of firewalls, one is enterprise firewall or network firewall and the other is host-based firewall. Two of them are generally used to secure the system by controlling network traffic by allowing or denying them. Their primary function is to filter traffic. Network firewalls are used to protect the network perimeter, while host-based firewall protects an individual computer regardless of the network it is connected to. The main role of the firewall is to enforce security policy. Host-Based Firewall Host-based firewalls are software firewalls that run on a single host and filter traffic arriving on that system only. For example, your laptop which can be connected to any network when you are away from home, but we don't know whether it is secure or not during these times. Host-based firewalls play a primary role in filtering traffic. They prevent malicious attacks and protect the host from infection. It also has some rules...... middle of paper ......oped and their major innovation is application firewalls which block attacks occurring in the application layer. There are some disadvantages for firewall is that it cannot protect a system from backdoor attacks and cannot protect itself from insider attackers. The main problem is that this is the Internet and should not be considered secure. But firewalls act as a barrier between attackers and the system. The firewall doesn't solve the real problems. Current firewalls combine multi-layer stateful packet inspection and multi-protocol application inspection. The virtualized network and advanced security tools shape them even better. Finally, the only thing is that the enterprise firewall is for the entire network, while the host-based firewall is for that particular host only. When we use both, it does not compromise security..
