    Vera 1What is capital punishment? For those who don't know or have never heard of the word, capital punishment is a decision made by a court to execute someone because of their actions. The death penalty has been around for a very long time and is still practiced today throughout the world and in the United States. The oldest and best known account of capital punishment dates back to the time of Jesus Christ. The Romans and people of Jerusalem believed that Jesus had committed a serious crime and should be punished. By consensus, they agreed to crucify him mercilessly. In the past, England tortured convicted criminals until they were pronounced dead. In the Middle Ages in Europe, they killed those convicted of petty crimes such as theft. Also in the past, the colony of Massachusetts considered it a capital crime to curse one's parents and further action was taken against you. These are just a few examples of methods of capital punishment throughout history. Today, capital punishment is carried out several times a year, but coming back to England's view on capital punishment, what would happen if the United States killed every person convicted of a crime , whatever the reason? crime committed? Would our country be safer? Would people understand the idea? In the midst of this controversial topic, it is clear that the death penalty is expensive and does not necessarily reduce crime in our country. Who is the death penalty applied to? Generally speaking, the death penalty is mainly applied in the most serious cases, such as rape and murder. As mentioned previously, “Texas has by far the highest number of executions, but its homicide rate is twice that of Wisconsin.” (Carter Jimmy) As far as Wisconsin is concerned, the death penalty is not used. Texas enforces the law. Result: the homicide rate in Texas is double that of Wisconsin. It therefore does not necessarily worsen crime.Vera 5When we take into account all the facts, it is obvious that the death penalty is a mistake. The death penalty is expensive and does not necessarily reduce crime. Everyone has the right to choose their destiny, so why should anyone else decide theirs ??
