    Money is power in the United States, and as such, society is controlled by the powerful. If a filmmaker (writer, director, or producer) wants their film to be a box office success, the film must be created according to the normative standards set by those who control the industry. Generally, those who regulate the media are banks and a number of media companies (Horne, 2001; Mantsios, 2013). The Hunger Games (2012), directed by Gary Ross, is no different in the way it makes audiences anticipate and praise the film, but it fails to extrapolate the subtle message of class inequality to his audience. Additionally, the film fails to thoroughly consider the class divide and question race relations and subtly, but significantly, alludes to racial inequality. The Hunger Games movie, based on the books written by Suzanne Collins, received widespread praise from teenagers and adults. Having never watched the film or been interested in it, I became increasingly curious about what the film was about and what kind of message it conveyed. People have expressed their anticipation and excitement for the film's release. Most of the enthusiasm indicated was due to reading the books, – which are designed for tweens, teens and young adults despite all the gore mentioned, – the desire to see Katniss in action and for others to join in to the hype created by the media (“Anticipation builds…”, 2012, “Film Anticipation…”, 2012). Other websites noted that they were anticipating the film because the main character's strength, caring qualities, and warrior qualities could be a role model for young girls.
