One of the most influential people in modern biology and geology is Charles Darwin. His advances in these fields still have an impact today. His theory of natural selection caused a tidal wave in the scientific community around the world. Darwin's theories and studies remain a subject of conflict. Many Christians still dispute his theories, remaining faithful to their ideas of creationism. Biographical Information On February 12, 1809, one of the most respected and controversial scientists was born ("Charles Darwin"). Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, into a family of eight ("Charles Darwin"). He was the second youngest child and was a very wealthy and privileged child ("Charles Darwin"). Darwin was born into a long line of scientists (“Charles Darwin”). When he was eight years old, Darwin's mother Susanna ("Charles Darwin") died. In 1817, at the age of sixteen, Darwin was sent to a day school in Shrewsbury (Scientific Biography 565). During his stay, it was determined that Darwin was a slow learner (Scientific Biography 565). In 1818, Darwin was enrolled at Shrewsbury School under the supervision of Dr. Samuel Butler (Scientific Biography 565). There, the curriculum focused on the classics, some ancient history, and geography (Scientific Biography 565). Charles claimed that school taught him nothing and said: “For me, school as a means of education was simply a void. » (Scientific Biography 565). Darwin was publicly reprimanded by the director for wasting time on chemical experiments (Scientific Biography 565). In 1825 he was expelled from Shrewsbury School and began the study of medicine at Edinburgh University (Scientific Biography 565).
