Public Health Issue: SmokingThis essay aims to explore, analyze and discuss smoking among adults. The United Kingdom (UK) is known to have the highest number of people with a history of smoking among people with low socio-economic status (Scriven and Garman, 2006; Goddard and Green, 2005) Tobacco use is considered a serious epidemic in the United Kingdom and according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE, 2012) stated that 28% of adults with low economic status are tobacco smokers, compared to 13% of those with economic status or having professional income. Additionally, almost 80,000 people died in England in 2011 due to smoking-related problems and 9,500 admissions. children have died because they were passive smokers (WHO, 2005). This essay focuses on the definition of smoking. The objective is to highlight the relationship between smoking and the determinants of health, then the extent, prevalence and evolution of smoking morbidity. will be explored. In addition, some public health policies implemented to deal with smoking-related problems will be studied and finally, the roles of nurses will identify the health needs of the public in order to promote good health and well-being. It is important for the government to carry out more anti-smoking campaigns to reach the manual and routine group and follow up regarding complete cessation.
