Essay / The theme of death in “More than that” by Patrick Ness
Therefore, no one can force you to recognize a meaning in life that you are not ready to understand. In the novel, the title plays a considerable role in reinforcing the theme. The title represents the internal conflict that Seth experienced throughout the novel. Seth continually struggles throughout his life before his awakening, stating, "I wanted there to be more so badly." I wanted there to be more than my shitty little life. The title of the novel is reused several times to show that Seth is a troubled teenager who survives extraordinary events that make him realize that life has meaning. After defeating "The Driver" with the help of his friends, Seth is determined to return to the online world and try to show more people how to escape it. At this point, “he thinks what is definitely certain is that there are always more.” Always." Seth knows he is part of a movement bigger than himself. A revolution he must be part of, a goal, a meaning in life that he was blind to before, but now has the will to realize.
