Essay / The African Methodist Episcopal Church - 2467
The African Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as the AME Church, represents a long history of people going from struggles to success, from embarrassment to pride, slaves to freedom. I intend to prove that the name African Methodist Episcopal represents equality and freedom to worship God, regardless of the skin color a person was fortunate enough to be born with. The thesis is this: while whites and Africans believed in the worship of God, whites believed in the oppression of Africans' freedom to serve God in their own way, blacks defended their own right to worship by developing their own church. According to Andrew White, a well-known author of the AME denomination, “The word African means that our church was organized by people of African descent. The word “Methodist” means that our church is a member of the Methodist family of churches. , The word “episcopal” refers to the form of government under which our church operates. » THE CREATION OF THE SOUL CHURCH Many people who hear the name African Methodist Episcopal Church automatically make assumptions. These assumptions are based on faulty premises that the name of the Church indicates that the Church is only for African Americans or that it is filled with racist teachings. None of these assumptions are true. African communities established their own churches and ordained their own preachers who could identify with the struggle of being a slave and the struggle of being a free African in a foreign land who spoke of freedom, but their action said something something different. Although the Civil War brought about change for Africans, this change brought sorrow, despair, and restriction of worship to Africans...... middle of paper ...... Methodist Episcopal Church Africa has a long history of struggles, victories and achievements. Africans were given the privilege to worship God in their own way by forming their own church that represented who they were and what they believed. Even today, the freedom to worship God is still evident within the walls of many AME churches. The AME Church advocates worldwide that God should be worshiped by all who wish to worship Him, and it continues to dispel the erroneous premises that the Church is for only one race of people. The African Methodist Episcopal Church represents equality and freedom to worship God for both whites and Africans. The motto of AME is “God our Father, Christ our Redeemer, the Holy Spirit our Comforter, and humanity our family.” This motto reflects the fundamental beliefs of the African Methodist Episcopal Church..
