Essay / Remember The Titans - 959
In 1971, Coach Herman Boone replaced a popular and successful white coach at TC Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, in that community's efforts to finally integrate its schools. The school and community were violently divided by the federal integration order, and the volatility of the situation was increased by the abrupt demotion of Coach Yoast and the promotion of Boone to head coach. In this film, Coach Boone is on a mission to try to get the white and black players to unite and play together as a team. He wanted the two races to become a team. At that time, there was a lot of racism and a lot of schools were segregated, so the players obviously didn't get along at first. A lot changed when Boone replaced Yoast for the Titans head coaching job. The city struggled to accept that the Titans now had a black man as head coach. Coach Yoast agreed to be an assistant coach and convince the white players to play with the black players. Now it was time for them to go to camp to see what they were really made of. They were ready for camp and ready to get on the bus. At first, the buses were segregated by blacks and whites, but Coach Boone didn't want them to sit together. So one bus had only offensive players and the other had only defensive players. He wanted the players to get along, so he sat a black player with a white player on each set of seats and told them that the player they would sit with would be their roommate. It still didn't work when they got to camp. They still had their differences and didn't get along. When training started, they no longer supported each other. The white player missed a block simply because the person he was blocking for was Whi...... middle of paper ......al speech about being a perfect team, and that set the team up for the second half. . He said: "We are not perfect, but this team is perfect, because we have not lost a game so far." Coach Yoast said, “I don’t want the other team to gain another yard.” He said this before the start of the second half. The Titans ended up winning the championship and it was a great achievement. In this movie, I learned that you can never be quick to judge people based on their color or their appearance, because their appearance doesn't tell you if they are nice or good people. This movie teaches you great lessons about life and shows that you have to work hard to succeed and be a good team. Chemistry is one of the key things. Everyone must get along and there must be no conflict between teammates. I also learned that you shouldn't judge someone based on the color of their skin...
