  • Essay / The Life and Writings of Edgar Allen Poe - 866

"Having read all that has been written, and having thought of all that can be thought, on the subjects of God and "The soul, the man who has the right to say that he thinks, will find himself face to face with the conclusion that, on these subjects, the deepest thought is that which is least easily distinguished from the most superficial feeling." (Poe). This quote shows how Edgar Allan Poe's point of view was very different from that of other writers of this era. Poe was an American short story writer, poet, critic and editor famous for his culture of mystery and. macabre. His success in his works may or may not be due to his emotional and mental problems Edgar Allan Poe was a writer whose works represent his own style, how his emotional instability affected him and what happened. in his life Poe has witnessed tragedy since the beginning of his life. Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, was a well-known American actress. When Poe was 2 years old, his mother died (Edgar Allan Poe). Poe therefore witnessed death at a very young age. After his mother's death, Poe was taken in by his godfather, John Allan, with his childless wife. Shortly after being taken to Scotland and England (1815-1820) where he learned classical education, this continued in Richmond, Virginia. For 11 months, Poe attended the University of Virginia in 1826, but his gambling losses were so great that John Allan refused to let him stay. After returning to Richmond, Poe discovered that his old friend Emily Royster had become engaged. He entered West Point Academy, but was later expelled because he did not attend exercises and classes for a week (Edgar Allan Poe). As you see, he had to endure... middle of paper...... was only two years old, and throughout his life he struggled with school, work and himself. Poe was inspired by everything, even tragic events; for example, the inspiration for The Raven comes from the death of his wife. No matter how flawed Poe was, he was still a very memorable man who was an excellent writer and poet.Works CitedCanada, Mark, ed. “Edgar Allan Poe.” America of Canada. 1997.
