  • Essay / Organizational Resilience - 1228

BackgroundModern organizations must constantly change to meet customer demands. Workers must evolve with organizations to be able to perform new functions and perform new, sophisticated tasks. Not only is the type of work employees must perform changing, but the location, method and environment of work are also subject to transformation. With high turnover being a common feature in modern organizations, people must work in teams of different people each time. Mallak (1998) noticed that employees working in the sales and supplies department are even more exposed to external changes because they have to work with many different people. Today, workers have greater discretion and are allowed to make independent decisions during the course of their work. This is an essential element in meeting customer expectations and guaranteeing the quality of service. Naturally, the requirement to take on greater responsibilities in making key decisions places additional pressure on workers. One thing that all successful employees must share is what we call adaptability to change. It is very important that today's employees can make quick decisions on the spot, respond to customer needs, resolve possible tensions and ease frustrations, and then continue to fulfill their job responsibilities. However, Mallak (1998) notes that the majority of workers are unable to perform these functions in practice, as he believes many of them lack adequate training and/or preparation. What workers need to learn to be able to adapt to an ever-changing work environment is resilience. Being resilient means knowing "how to quickly design and implement positive adaptive behaviors that are in the middle of paper...... lack of empirical data on the fact.
