  • Essay / "Book Review "Cat's Cradle"

When I first started reading this book, I found it difficult to understand due to its unique writing style. The author of Cat's Cradle has divided the book into 127 chapters, the title of each chapter is significant. to each of the paragraphs that make up the chapter. This book was recommended to me by my sister, she knew I would like it because it is satire, science fiction and is different from other books. It is about a man named Jonas (also known as John) who writes a book about the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, in Jonah's book he also decides to write about the person who created the atomic bomb. The book begins with the narrator, presenting his beliefs. a Bokononist and how he was a Christian when he wrote his book called The Day the World Ended. In the first two chapters of the book, I found them very boring and extremely confusing due to the lack of events in the story and the frequent changes in setting. When I got to chapter five, events really started to speed up and it became more interesting. In chapter five, Jonas wrote a letter to Newt Hoenikker, Felix's youngest son. Felix Hoenikker is the scientist who created the atomic bomb. He wrote her a letter to get more information about the day the atomic bomb fell and about her relationship with her father. Newt responded to Jonah's letter and mentioned that he didn't remember much about that day because he was little, but he claims that he didn't have a good relationship with his father. Newt also mentions how his mother Emily died while giving birth to him. Later in the book we meet another character named Asa Breed. Dr. Breed was Felix's supervisor at the research laboratory where Felix helped develop the atomic bomb. John interviewed him while he was researching his book. During the interview, Dr. Breed mentioned something called Ice Nine to John. Ice-nine is one of Felix's projects to create something that can freeze all the water on earth. As a reader knowing this information about Ice-nine, I became very addicted to the book because I really want to know what will happen next, while knowing all this, I had so many questions coming to me at the mind, such as, Does Ice-nine really exist? And if so, who has it? From where I am in the story of the book, it is quite interesting despite the boring introduction to the plot and characters. My impression of the characters is that they are unique and different from any other book I've read, mainly because I don't identify with any of them. I am currently enjoying my book as events are starting to get interesting. My prediction for what happens next is that Jonah will stop writing about the day the atomic bomb was dropped, but will do more research and write about Ice-nine. After reading half of the book, I realized that it was an extremely slow book. Events take forever to end and new events take a while to start, which surprises me because it's not a long book. I always find myself confused while reading, this is because there are an excessive number of characters introduced throughout the book, some relevant and some less so. In this book the setting is constantly changing, which can get a little complicated, one chapter the main character is in a cemetery, the next he is in a basement. I found that every detail in this book counts, if you miss a small detail you will be.
