The sociological approach to social problems is different from that of many studies in the social sciences. Sociology is related to local or global social problems; as well as social problems discovered in individuals and groups. Equally important, sociological study measures the effect of people and society. “As a social science, sociology offers an objective and systematic approach to understanding the causes of social problems. » (Leon-Guerrero, 2011, pp. 5-6) Unfortunately, some social problems remain more important than others. Then, because of the danger and/or seriousness that this may represent for one or more people in society. (Crone, 2011, p. 7) There are several social problems in society that require immediate attention, due to their serious and dangerous impact on several people as well as communities. The social problem being addressed is relative poverty in America. Relative poverty in America affects many people across different groups, such as race/ethnicity, age, and gender. Even though many Americans are able to meet their basic needs, they may not be able to afford health care, help those in absolute poverty, or obtain an education . Speaking from experience, many Americans have faced terrible barriers to employment. In 2007, thousands of these Americans who were employed in various professional sectors were forced to leave their jobs. Several professional sectors have relocated their activities to foreign countries, leaving behind a significant unemployment rate in America. According to 2008 statistics, there was a poverty rate of 13.2 percent, compared to the most recent low poverty rate of 11.3 percent in 2000. Indeed, the comparison demonstrates the increase in the level of poverty in 8 years...... middle of paper ...... so the choice we make as individuals, like how we spend our income, etc. creates place in class society We all want our family members to be safe, protected, educated, healthy and happy. Reduced income may prompt other family members to interrupt their education and seek employment. Declining income can also break down the family unit, because for some people, adapting to change is unthinkable. If the family has young middle-aged children, it may lead them to commit crimes due to materialistic desires.
