  • Essay / Government Control, No Freedom in 1984 by George Orwell

People hear about political issues all over the news and form their own opinions about them, but do they really decide their beliefs for themselves Or do they just believe what the media tells them? Due to the bias of modern media, many people do not think independently, even when they think they are. They simply believe the lies the media feeds them and don't do the research themselves to get a clear picture of what's really going on and the impact of information control on the world around them. Due to the tendency of people to accept whatever information is fed to them, the United States is slowly sinking into the same government-controlled, freedom-free world as in George Orwell's 1984 book. In 1984, many people believed that everything their government said was true, despite common sense telling them otherwise. Two plus two makes four, and yet all the brainwashed Party worshipers believed the Party when they said that made five, despite no evidence to prove that this was an accurate statement (Orwell 80). The Ministry of Truth was responsible for turning facts into lies, even going so far as to rewrite history so that people had no record of what really happened in the first place. An example of rewriting history is when they made people believe that capitalism was bad. The capitalists owned everything in the world and everyone else was their slaves. They owned all the land, all the houses, all the factories and all the money. If anyone disobeyed them, he could throw them in prison, or take away their job and starve them to death. When an ordinary person spoke to a capitalist, he had to step back and bow to him, take off his cap and address him... in the middle of a paper... eb.
