Essay / Comparison of the Cathedral of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Savannah...
Jean-Baptiste, the Cathedral Basilica of Notre-Dame de Chartres is also a landmark for Chartres, France, where it is located. Built between 1145 and 1250, Chartres Cathedral features the same French Gothic style as Saint-Jean-Baptiste, but on a much larger and more drastic scale. After burning down in 1194, Chartres Cathedral began its reconstruction in the French Gothic style, more than 700 years before St. John's was rebuilt in 1898, after suffering similar fire damage. Chartres Cathedral is also a notable site because it houses the Sancta Camisa, which is believed to be the tunic worn by the Virgin Mary when she gave birth to Jesus.
