Addiction is a very common problem all over the world. Not only is it common, but it's also a major problem. According to the Casa Colombia study, one in seven people aged 12 and older is addicted to nicotine, alcohol or another type of opiate drug (“What is Addiction”). Drug addiction leads to many consequences such as negative symptoms, depression, health and mental problems, and death. Drug addiction not only affects the addict, but also those around them. Millions of people around the world are addicted to drugs. Some believe that drug addiction is a mental illness and cannot be overcome, but others say that if one is psychologically strong, one can overcome drug addiction. Therefore, if one has the support, resources and willpower, one can recover from drug addiction. Addiction is a bad habit that we pick up more than we want, and that we continue to do despite all the negative results. There are different types of addiction, some may make no sense but are a problem in many people's lives. Smoking, sex, gambling, alcohol and drugs are the most common addictions. Along with smoking and alcoholism, drug use tops the list of uses. Drugs are purchased illegally or prescribed and used daily. This is a growing problem around the world that needs to stop. There are a few risk factors that make a person more likely to become addicted to drugs. Antisocial and experimental attitudes are more visible among adolescents. Some teenagers like to rebel against society and try new things, including drugs. Being close to drugs, such as living in a big city, is also a danger because drugs are easier to obtain and there is a wide variety of choices. Other causes include family problems, gang members... middle of paper ...... drug addict, one puts drugs on one's "most important things to do" list. This can lead to a deterioration of relationships, as well as family life. It can also destroy a person’s educational journey and career. Which ultimately leads to financial problems and puts them on the street; or if they are "lucky", get arrested by the police and thrown in jail, but it is still debatable which is better. These are all huge addiction issues, but it can also lead to death. When someone overdoses, it means that the ingested drug entered the body too quickly, causing the person to become seriously poisoned, possibly leading to death. You might think, “Why don’t they stop?” Yes, they will suffer a little when faced with withdrawal, but so what? It’s better than wasting your whole life.” What they don't know is that once you become addicted to drugs, their minds change, their logic fades...
