  • Essay / Klondike Gold Rush vs. California Gold Rush - 588

If you were given the chance to go back in time and immerse yourself in the Klondike Gold Rush, you would- YOU ? If you answered yes, think about it: gold prospectors in the Klondike Gold Rush faced far more hardship than during the California Gold Rush. I believe this is due to the climate the miners faced, competition from other miners, the geography and topography of the area, travel and technology in the area also known as the Territory of the Yukon. After reading this, you might think that it would be better to participate in the California Gold Rush than the Klondike Gold Rush. The first reason I explained why the Klondike Gold Rush was more difficult was the harsh climate and competition from other miners. The usual temperature for the Klondike Gold Rush was -30/-40 degrees Fahrenheit, and sometimes it got as low as -50/-60 degrees Fahrenheit. The climate during the California Gold Rush was 30/40 degrees Fahrenheit. It also snowed, the Klondike Gold Rush experienced severe snowstorms. In fact, sometimes if you follow a trail during a snowstorm, your visibility can drop to as little as 10 feet. Additionally, there was a lot more land available for mining, during the California Gold Rush, so anyone who came from far away to the Klondike Gold Rush was beaten out by the people who were already there. During the two gold rushes, the miners were also very hostile towards their land. If someone was caught on someone else's land, they would be forced to leave or even shot by the landowner. The second reason the Klondike Gold Rush was more difficult is the geography and topography of the Yukon Territory. The Klondike Gold Rush took place in the Yukon Territory (page 344 of the World Book), which is much further north than California. Since,...... middle of paper...... Book 2002. Edition 2002.
