Essay / Illegal Immigration in Arizona - 994
How much longer will Arizona have to suffer from illegal immigration? Peter Katel wrote that "while illegal immigrants make up only about 5 percent of the U.S. workforce, critics of the country's immigration policies say illegal immigrants are taking Americans' jobs, threatening security national and even change the culture of the nation by refusing to assimilate” (Katel paragraph 1). We will see how Arizona handles illegal immigration. Although illegal immigration is not a major problem in most states, Arizona faces increased crime, overcrowding and additional costs. A major example of why illegal immigration is a problem in Arizona is the increasing crime rate. The crime rate in Arizona has increased with all the problems related to illegal immigration. We recently saw an Arizona rancher murdered on his ranch by suspected illegal immigrants. We also have illegal immigrants buying stolen identities from cybercriminals. These individuals are printing new, fake Social Security numbers and photo IDs for illegal immigrants. In some cases, these ID cards are stolen and names are changed. Arizona also faces human trafficking across borders. This is also linked to drug trafficking. They create tunnels to move drugs and people across borders undetected. Terrorism has also been a major concern for our border security since the attacks of September 11, 2001. Overpopulation is another example of how illegal immigration is harming Arizona. Arizona is facing inaccurate census reporting and finding that our schools have too many children and not enough teachers. Many of these children learn English as a second language. We are also facing the same situations in our hospitals. Emergency rooms are... middle of paper ..., free up valuable resources by managing the population, and reduce government costs through immigration laws. Arizona is not alone in the battle against illegal immigration. Texas and California are also cracking down on illegal immigration, but Arizona is the only state to pass a new immigration law. Arizona is leading the way in combating illegal immigration and providing a safe environment for its citizens. Many states are also considering adding Arizona's new immigration law. What needs to happen before people see this problem as a real threat? Works Cited Katel, Peter. “Illegal immigration”. CQ Researcher 15.17 (2005): 393-420. QC Researcher. Internet. July 5, 2010.
