    By using descriptive details, it grabs the reader's attention. The descriptive details used in the story inspire the audience to imagine and believe in this world where flying carpets are real. This descriptive detail makes the audience appreciate the story. “Below me I saw the shadow of the carpet undulating on the grass; drifting high above the hedge and above the wasteland… tall sunny grass… and everything was sunny, everything was peaceful and calm” (262). This shows how Millhauser uses descriptive details in order to involve the audience in the story. The way Millhauser says the tall grass...drifting over the hedge, it allows the audience to create a picture of the adventure the boy is having with his flying carpet. By creating an image in the audience's mind, it makes them suspend their disbelief. From my perspective, I imagine the boy riding the mat onto the grass and entering the wasteland. It made me suspend my disbelief because I imagined I was in a boy's world. This made me want to believe that flying carpets are real and fun.
