  • Essay / Acts of Kindness Can Change Our Lives

There are random acts we do in our daily lives that don't directly benefit us, but we do them for others. To make those around us happy, which in turn makes us happy. These random acts may include giving food or clothing to a homeless person. There are times when we just sit and listen to someone who is going through something difficult. Or volunteer to help children with special needs. We perform these random acts of kindness, not because we expect something in return from these people, but because being there for someone or helping them makes us satisfied and happy. I saw an owl being attacked by crows. I scared the crows but the owl was injured and couldn't fly away. I picked up the owl, gave it water and food, and placed it in a cage so its wounds could heal. Today I released him from the cage, he was completely healed and was able to fly away. I helped the owl out of the kindness of my heart. I didn't expect anything from this owl in return. All I wanted for the owl was for it to find its way home. Helping this raven owl and giving him water and food so he could heal was good, and when this owl flew away it made me really happy. Just thinking about that owl coming home makes me even happier. I did something good, I helped an owl. This may not seem like a big act to anyone else, but to me, this simple act meant a lot. The feeling of happiness resulting from this act persisted throughout the day. Today when I came home late. I was exhausted and all I wanted to do was find my way to my bed and sleep, but my sister-in-law was sick. So I told him to rest while I took care of his son. I played with him and fed him. Feeding him was a really difficult task. He even bit me when I was feeding him. I changed him and rocked him until he fell asleep. He's a naughty and mischievous child but I love him all the same. It was a long day but a good day. In one of my classes there was a poster assignment where we had to get the poster printed. A resident of the hostel was going through a difficult time and could not get the poster printed. So I told him I would have his poster printed too. Thinking about it, I realize that it wasn't a difficult task since I was already going to have my poster printed. So it was nice to help someone else along the way. A friend of mine is going through a very difficult time, so today I talked to her, listened to what she wanted to say and then gave her my advice. I told her how she could handle the situation and look forward to the good things happening to her. I told him not to look at the bad things and be afraid, but to look forward to the good things that happen to him. Even though she said talking to me helped her, I really hope things get easier for her. Yesterday I was sitting with my friends and I made eye contact with a girl sitting near us, I just gave her a simple friendly smile. She smiled and waved at me. To this I replied. The funny thing is that I didn't know her and she didn't know me. But this random act made him smile and that made me smile. One of my friendswas very sad today. He missed his brother very much. His brother died in a car accident that year. I didn't know what to say or do to him, so I just gave him a hug. Looking at someone who is sad makes me sad. Helping them and making them smile makes me feel like a decent human. Making someone smile motivates me to help another person and make them smile. Helping people for no other reason than just to make someone's life a little easier or to help them through a difficult time doesn't really benefit me. I was there for them because helping them makes me feel good and satisfied. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, increased my level of happiness. A single act of kindness makes me feel good for a very long time. No matter how small or big an act of kindness is, it increases my level of happiness. Helping someone, no matter how small, automatically makes me happy and good. The fact that I was able to help someone or make someone smile makes me smile. Every time I go out with my friends. We package up all the leftover food and give it to a homeless person we pass on the way home. The homeless person may not have anything to eat and being able to provide them with these basic necessities makes me and my friends proud. This little act of ours took no time or effort. Instead of wasting this food, we gave it to someone who deserved it. All these kind acts made me think about things from a different perspective. If a person helps someone, there is a chance that person will help someone else in the future. Thus begins a chain of benevolent acts in society. Wouldn’t that make society a better place to live? Even if the act of kindness is small, it makes us happy. It made me think of something else, that these acts of kindness not only benefited them, but they also helped me. I gave these people something they didn't have. I helped them and it made me feel good about myself. It made me think of myself as a good person. There are various acts of kindness that we do without even realizing it, such as giving water to a thirsty person or letting someone else wait in line ahead of us because they are in a hurry. Kindness arises when we are able to understand where the other person is coming from. Kindness begins when we accept that the other person may also be having a bad day, even worse than us. So if things go wrong, yelling at the other person won't make things better, but take a deep breath and calmly handle the situation. Kindness is in compassion when you help someone. Know the good and bad in our lives and help others accordingly. Understanding the good and bad in others and helping them accordingly in relation to our own needs. Kindness is a wonderful and beautiful quality. Which can bring you peace and content. Works Cited: Ali, AS (2015). Jordan: a brief overview of its history, society and culture.
