Diarrhea has been shown to cause malnutrition in children under five years old. Diarrheal diseases cause loss of water and salt in the body and can lead to death. This disease is very dangerous for children under five years old. Nigeria is one of the countries with the highest infant mortality rate in the world. In 2010, for example, the under-five mortality rate was 157/1,000 live births and the infant mortality rate was 75/1,000 live births (EDS, 2010). Diarrhea accounts for 19% of all child mortality in Nigeria. This essay aims to discuss the reduction of diarrheal diseases among children under five years of age in Lagos, Nigeria. The trial will focus on assessing epidemiological issues, including locally initiated data research, selected interventions and implementation strategies to prevent under-five mortality from diarrheal diseases.
