  • Essay / The Nicholas Effect Essay - 1102

Reginald Green is the father of a young boy who loved life to the fullest. Their adventures in mythical stories and their travels around the world formed a strong relationship of love and compassion. Reg never thought his young boy would leave this life so soon. His death on October 1, 1994, was tragic, but also a turning point in the history of organ donation. Reg Green, Nicholas Green's father, has a choice. He can either donate the organs or let Nicholas be buried with them. The events leading up to Nicholas' death took a heavy toll on Reg Green's emotions. The car chase and being in a foreign country took its toll. This aroused emotions like fear, alienation, and drive. Reg Green experienced these emotions countless times before and after Nicholas' death. The Greens, devastated by their position, were ready to donate Nicolas's organs: other families, however, do not do so. Reg Green never hesitated, his spirit was determined. He was not frightened by this decision, nor alienated by the outcome, nor determined to make it appear as if the situation would improve. He chose to donate his organs. At first I was afraid of the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway; a highway near Sicily. Sicily is known for its petty crimes, but I always thought that would never happen to me. It was a shock when my family and I were targeted. It was the middle of the night, when an old rusty car was getting closer and closer to ours. I remember quietly saying to myself, “There’s something wrong here. » Cars in the passing lane don't drive slowly, they pass quickly. This car slowly kept up with our speed in the passing lane. This did not correspond to a typical passage on an Italian highway. Now I said out loud: "Something is happening."...... middle of the papers...... and I gave them new life. His story, The Nicolas Effect, touched the hearts of millions and increased the percentage of organ donors worldwide. Nicholas' father, Reg Green, was there. What happened to her son was tragic, but the positives outweighed the negatives. Without Reg, organ donation would not be the norm that it is today. Reg Green's emotions of fear, alienation, and motivation influenced his choice to donate Nicholas's organs. Without these emotions, his choice might have turned away from the gift, which is why Reg Green is just as important as Nicholas. October 1, 1994 is the day Nicolas died, except that Nicolas is still alive. He is alive in each of the seven people to whom he donated his organs and Nicholas is alive in everyone who donates their organs. Works CitedGreen, Reg. The Nicolas effect: a boy's gift to the world.
