THE GIVERPlot SummaryThe story is about a boy named Jonas. Jonas lives in a community where everything is perfect, everything is the same and where no one has the right to break the rules imposed by the Elders. The Elders are responsible for creating all the rules and essentially govern everyone's lives. Jonas lives with his parents and a sister. His parents were only allowed to have two children, a boy and a girl. It was one of many community rules that could not be broken. Every year, the community comes together to celebrate children's birthdays. We call it the celebration of twos, threes, fours, etc. until the age of 11. At each age, children must complete the chore that has been chosen for them. Additionally, they must attend school and volunteer until they are 12 years old. When they turn 12, there is a special event. This is called the Ceremony of the Twelve. During this event, each child will be given a “job” based on their personality and abilities.
