Essay / Modesty - 866
In all parts of the world and throughout history, the topic of a woman's attire has been an issue. In the United States alone, 1.3 million women have disclosed being raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetime, while only 84,000 cases of rape have been reported to authorities. This means that in the United States, a woman has a one in five chance of being sexually assaulted, with the highest danger occurring between the ages of 16 and 19. While it's not just an issue that affects women in this country, only three percent of men have admitted to being sexually assaulted, compared to a much higher percentage of women suffering from these types of advances. . The problem behind this topic is that women are often blamed for attacks that happen to them because of the way they dress. Some of the first questions investigators ask a woman are about what she was wearing at the time of the attack. The general attitude is that the woman was “asking for it.” and thus received what they deserved. In many homes and religious institutions, the theme of female modesty is discussed while she is still a girl. She is often taught to dress in a way that will not arouse a man's desire and that it is her duty to keep the thoughts of a man or any other individual clean. There are many objections to this view, as many women believe that they should not be held responsible for the actions or thoughts of another being. In order to solve many problems related to this subject, it can be proposed that members of both sexes should refrain from wearing clothing. This proposal is made, with this subject in mind, as a simple suggestion to resolve the conflicting opinions on the question of dress and modesty, to reduce...... middle of paper ..... .idemic. The change will initially be met with opposition, but will begin to take effect as it will result in the removal of modesty standards and dress expectations as well as social separation based on dress by completely eliminating the clothing factor. Not only that, but the number of rapes could and most likely would be reduced, as lust for one's body would no longer be an issue, with individuals being exposed to the nudity of the human body throughout their lives. The possibility of a woman being accused of provoking her own rape would be non-existent as the way she presented herself would no longer matter in defending the rapist. This cultural shift could resolve all conflicts and bring both sexes together in equality, as nudity and appearance would become casual and not be as high on a pedestal as they currently are in today's culture..
