Essay / Stanley Kubrick's description of The Shining teacher, Wendy Torrance, Jack's wife, and Danny Torrance, Jack and Wendy's son. The story begins when Jack agrees to become the winter caretaker of the Overlook Hotel where he could also concentrate on writing. However, Jack learns that there was an incident where a man killed his entire family and himself at the hotel. Jack says it wouldn't be a problem and wouldn't bother his wife, but he never tells his wife. Meanwhile, Danny has an incident at home where he hurts himself while talking to his imaginary friend "Tony" and brushing his teeth. This is where Wendy reveals to the nurse that there was an incident where Jack injured Danny's arm while he was drunk. Additionally, she reveals that Jack had drinking problems in the past, but has stopped drinking since this incident. The Torrances finally arrive at the hotel with a view where they are shown around while Danny goes to the games room. Jack and Wendy are taken all around the huge hotel, even being told that the hotel is built on an Indian burial ground. Meanwhile, Danny has another incident while playing darts in the games room and sees two mysterious twins. Danny then runs and finds his parents in the golden room. Danny and Wendy then tour the kitchen with the hotel's head chef, Mr. Hallorann. Mr. Hallorann telepathically speaks to Danny in his mind asking if he wanted some ice cream. The rising action begins when it is revealed to Danny that he possesses a talent called "The Shining." With this talent, Danny could not only communicate telepathically, but also view memories of the Overlook Hotel itself. Mr. Hallorann warns him that there are bad things in the hotel. Danny asks what to be afraid of and specifically asks about room 237. Hallorann warns Danny to stay out of that room because it is dangerous. Say no to plagiarism. Wendy tries to make small talk with him but Jack gets angry with her and tells her to leave him alone. He said she was interrupting her work. Meanwhile, Danny explores the hotel on his Ferris wheel and meets the two twins again. However, this time he sees the twins' "death scene" and blood all over the hallway. Danny then goes to room 237 because the door was open. Meanwhile, Jack wakes up screaming at his typewriter. Wendy runs to Jack and he tells her that he had a nightmare in which he killed Wendy and Danny and cut them into small pieces. Jack admits to Wendy that he is losing his mind. Danny arrives in the room where Jack and Wendy are with marks on his neck. Wendy thinks Jack did it and accuses him of child abuse to his face. Jack continues to lose his mind and talk to himself. He eventually ends up at the Golden Room bar where he meets Lloyd, a ghost bartender. Jack asks him for alcohol and hallucinates that he is drinking it. Jack complains about Wendy to the bartender and his marriage in general. Wendy finds Jack and tells him that there is a woman in the house who is strangling Danny. Jack investigates room 236 himself where he meets the same woman who ends up being an old lady and gets along with her. Jack returns to Wendy and lies that he didn't see anyone in the room. Wendy wants to leave the hotel to ask Danny for help, but Jack gets upset in response. Jack returns to the golden room whereA ball is taking place. He meets the ghost of Mr. Grady, the man who killed his family and himself in this hotel. Grady told Jack to kill his family and that Danny was a bad boy for getting help with his "Shining" talent. Meanwhile, Danny doesn't respond to Wendy and only refers to himself as his imaginary friend Tony and starts saying "redrum". At the same time, Danny uses his shining to get help from Hallorann. Hallorann senses something is up and ends up returning to Colorado to check on them. While Wendy searches for Jack, she finds a stack of papers on the typewriter that keeps repeating the same thing. Jack surprises Wendy by bursting through the door and tries to harm her. Wendy ends up hitting Jack in the head, causing him to fall down the stairs. Wendy drags Jack to the storage room and locks him there. Wendy discovers that the two-way radio and snowmobile were rigged by Jack before the incident. Later, Jack talks to Grady again and Grady tells him that he is not doing a good job, Grady unlocks the door and lets Jack out. Danny writes redrum on the door while Wendy sleeps and wakes her up by shouting "redrum". Wendy sees the message in the mirror and realizes that it says "murder". Jack wants to knock down the door, Wendy and Danny run to the bathroom where she only pushes Danny out the window to escape, but not herself because she couldn't get back in. This is where the main conflict is most obvious: Jack is trying to harm Wendy and Danny. Jack walks through the bathroom door and shouts "Here's Johnny", but leaves after Wendy stabs him in the hand and hears the sound of a snowmobile outside. This past scene is the climax since it is where Jack reaches his final breaking point and attempts to kill his family. Hallorann arrives at the hotel to check on the family but Jack finds him and kills him by hitting him in the back with an axe. Danny hides in the closet but runs away after hearing Jack. Danny then runs through Hedge's maze with Jack still in pursuit. Meanwhile, Wendy finds Hallorann's corpse and begins seeing ghosts and dead people. Danny ends up losing Jack in the maze while Wendy sees blood coming out of the elevator doors. Wendy runs outside and finds Johnny. This is where the action/conclusion of the fall begins as they now resolve the conflict and are safe from Jack. They both get on Hallorann's snowmobile and escape from the hotel and Jack. Jack remains frozen in the snow to die. The film ends with a zoom in on an old 1921 photo of Jack and a crowd of people. The Dénouement was supposed to show that Jack dies from the cold and that Danny and Wendy escape unharmed. In my opinion, all the actors and actresses did a great job playing their roles in The Shining. Jack Nicholson did a superb job of showing the audience a man who had become a complete psychopath. One of my favorite scenes and probably the most famous is when he kicks down the door and yells “Here’s Johnny” to Wendy. Now, whenever I think of someone psychopathic, Jack Nicholson's face always comes to mind. Shelly Duvall also did an outstanding job playing Wendy. The particular scene that showed this was his reaction when Jack started to kick down the bathroom door. In this scene, you can really feel the anxiety and fear in Wendy, all thanks to Shelly Duvall's superb acting. Also, my favorite thing about Danny Lloyd, the Danny Torrance actor, was when he used the voice of his imaginary friend Tony. I especially liked the way he said "redrum" in the scene where he drew it on the door. I thought the plot of the movie was unique,”.
