  • Essay / Social Responsibility: Examples in Animal Farm by...

What is social responsibility? Social responsibility is an obligation to act in a way that benefits society as a whole. People can do this by helping to improve the sustainability of the Earth through processes such as recycling, composting, and by being polite to others. Thanking a police officer or veteran for their service, or facing and accepting the consequences are just a few examples of social responsibility. Unfortunately, the vast majority of individuals are not socially responsible. We are often fueled by fear, and the fear of losing power is so devastating that we make irrational and socially irresponsible decisions. Then, when these individuals work in a company or form companies, these companies are also not socially responsible. I made the following promises to myself regarding my individual and social responsibility: to be economically responsible, to be socially friendly, and to be a good influence on others. There are several ways in which an individual or company can be socially responsible, as we have seen in our reading. In George Orwell's Animal Farm, the pig Napoleon manipulated his workers to improve the farm in every way possible while convincing them that he is a much better leader than their previous boss, Mr. Jones. In All My Sons by Arthur Miller, the father tries to hide the truth and thus causes the death of his own son. And finally, in the movie "The Corporation" there is Shell, a large corporation that not only exploits much of the Earth's resources, but also damages the environment in which it produces oil. I myself will be different from that. I will be socially responsible by not exploiting the unintelligent, evaluating my decisions and the impact they have on society, and...... middle of paper ...... it affects others and how they affect me as an individual. lowered my level as a human being. Recently, I've started to evaluate every instance of what I do and act on what I do in a way that doesn't try to manipulate the outcome. For example, I tried to be a leader when it came to my debate team. My debate team is very special to me and I would never want to harm any member of my team by making bad decisions. So I act with my team in mind instead of giving orders to my teammates. I seem to have a stronger connection with them when this worker-leader relationship is implemented. Ultimately, it seems that society will only get worse and we need to change our ways. As individuals and, through this, as a company, if we do this, we will become morally better people and we will have more happiness.
