Essay / Analysis Of Dangerous Minds - 1816
Hollywood inflated the public's view of the neighborhood as it was shown in black and white, focused on graffiti with sirens in the background, and even participated in drug trafficking drug taking place in front of the students as they boarded the bus. It can be assumed that the living conditions students live in are what cause them to develop harsh attitudes towards life, which leads to behavioral problems. This idea is also found today; students are the creation of the place where they live. In my past experience, I observed that the students who misbehaved and acted out were those who came from a broken home or lived in a rough neighborhood. For example, when Ms. Johnson entered the classroom, each student was in their own world doing what they wanted to do. None of them paid attention to Ms. Johnson, but those who did were disrespectful by calling her "white bread" (8:00-9:35). In the film Freedom Writers, the same reactions to a new teacher were expressed by students (10:15). In both cases, these are minority students from low-income families. In both of these films, most of the teachers at the school accepted the students' bad behavior and did not want to teach them or have anything to do with them. In Dangerous Minds, the students were even called special children by the vice-principal and by Hal, a teacher.
