The level crossing at the 900 block of Eureka Street continually presents a problem of invasive vegetation which presents a significant danger. This specific crossing proved to be a perilous crossing. On June 5, 2008, a catastrophic death occurred. In 2008, the crossing had no barriers or lights, but only displayed signs in the shape of a cross with a stop sign. The track presents a dangerous curve as it approaches the level crossing. Proper maintenance of vegetation is vital for the safety of City employees who cross this route to reach the wastewater treatment plant. Consequently, due to lack of maintenance and monitoring of the vegetation growing around the railway line, a young man lost his life. Additionally, lives have been changed forever. Operation Lifesaver, Inc. points out: “APPROXIMATELY EVERY 3 HOURS, A PERSON OR VEHICLE IS HIT BY A TRAIN. » These statistics highlight the importance of good maintenance at regulatory sightline lengths. Although a gate with flashing lights has been installed as a safety precaution, there is no guarantee that the gate and lights will not suffer mechanical failure. Therefore, maintaining vegetation is crucial for visual protection against another accident occurring at this precise crossing, with a false sense of security. devices positioned, a walking and cycling path was installed along this line of track to enhance the community. Although the walking and cycling path concept improves community vigor, it does add to the potential risks of public pedestrians crossing the path. Not to mention the unsupervised children riding their bikes along the trail.
