How Did Christianity Affect the People of India?IntroductionReligions have existed for thousands of years. Catholicism is one of the largest religions in the world. India is a country in Asia, a little larger than Texas, but with more than 2 billion inhabitants. A 2001 survey showed that there were just over "24 million Christians" in India (Christianity). This topic appealed to me because I had lived in a boarding school in India from fourth to sixth grade. I had seen the effects of this religion on people and how they reacted to change. I had seen how people adapted to religion and how they abandoned religion by turning to other religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. I can relate to these people because when I lived there, I learned about their culture. I can understand a lot of the things they do and why they do it. Many Indians have certain ways of doing things, such as using only their right hand when eating and bathing after an eclipse. I can relate to this because I grew up in a culture that promoted racial equality. This racial equality allowed me to see the difference between Catholics and Hindus in India. There is a major difference between these two religions, for example Christianity is monotheistic and Hinduism is polytheistic. These differences pit these two religions against each other because one religion contradicts the other and vice versa. This tension between these religions creates great confusion among the Indian population. Many Indians of the time had converted, but the majority of the population was still unaware of it.
