Who was Porcia Catonis really? Was she simply Brutus' faithful and loving wife? Did she have more to her than what Shakespeare wrote? Return to the story of Porcia, her family, other lovers, and read between the lines to discover the truth about who Porcia Catonis really was. Pulling out literature books and opening history books, researching Porcia may not be the easiest to find in books or on the Internet. However, upon digging deep into his life and realizing; it was different from the one written in story books. Porcia Catonis lived around 43 BC, daughter of Marcus Porcius Cato Uticencis, a privileged politician, and his first wife Atilia, a housewife. Porcia remained young and beautiful. She was considered courageous and affectionate, and also addicted to philosophy. Very early in life, she was engaged to Marcus Calpurnius Bibulus, her father's political ally. She and Marcus were rumored to have had a son together, Lucius Calpurnius Bibulus, but many historians believe this to be untrue, as Porica's age prevented her from having a child. Additionally, it could have been around the time of the Battle of Philippi. Nonetheless, Porcia and Marcus' marriage was faithful and full of life. However, in Roman times, natural marriage was not as secret as it is today. It was not uncommon for a man to “share” his wife with other men. Subsequently, this is exactly what Quintus Hortensius had asked of Marcus. This didn't sit well with Marcus. He endured too much love and passion with Porcia to let her go. Not even an alliance with Quintius, just for his heir, would take Porcia from him. As humble and caring as Marcus was to his wife, he achieved a strong and fierce status as...... middle of paper ...... In the play, Porcia, was a kind person, gentle, faithful and loving. marry. Many would have read that she was a fierce, strong, strong-willed woman who would fight for her husband's trust at all costs. No one would have ever thought that Porcia could have been more than meets the eye. No one would have thought that she could have been anything other than a name in the pages of history. Porcia was more than a pretty and faithful woman, she was exciting, courageous, sincere and an underrated woman that few people have the chance to know. As times change and Shakespeare's plays become fewer, few people will ever know who Porcia was, where she came from, who she loved, or even how she died. But, for those who read Shakespeare and develop a mysterious taste for Porcia, like me, they will see that she had more between the lines of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar..
