  • Essay / Symbolic References in a Worn Path by Eudora Welty

Many times an object or character can easily be better understood when a symbol is used to represent it. Just like in sports, they also use colors, mascots, animals and symbols to give an image to the team. The Oakland Raiders use a tough, tough raider to show the character and strength of their football organization and by using this symbol they can create some intimidation without even stepping foot on the field. Symbols are also used on the road. At traffic lights they shine in 3 different colors, green for moving forward, yellow for slowing down and red for stopping. Each color represents something different. Symbols are used even in the simplest things, like making a phone call. Each button on a smartphone has its own individual function which is possible by clicking on a button which in our case is a symbol on the smartphone. Reasons for what is happening and why. The entire story is heavily tied to symbolism acting as a link between the story and its true meaning. We can now understand everything throughout “A Worn Path” thanks to the new understanding that symbolism gives us. “Symbolism in “A Worn Path”,” 123helpme, Np, nd Web, March 17, 2014.
