Essay / The History of Photography and the Camera - 957
Photography has come a long way from the first camera to today. In this essay I will begin by explaining how the first aspect called Camera Obscura began. Camera Obscura was first developed and explained in ancient times, in the 4th and 5th centuries BC. It was first developed by the Chinese and Greeks, then studied by other ancient philosophers. It is used to create images that are transmitted through a pinhole camera placed on a wall located in a dark room. People like Aristotle studied the Camera Obscura as well as the pinhole camera. In 1814, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce took the Camera Obscura and developed a special type of paper on which images could be printed. These photographs that Joseph printed did not last long and disappeared after a while. But it was not until 1826 that he invented permanent images/photographs. His photographs were taken on a plate of polished tin coated with a petroleum derivative which then hardened with exposure to light. The uncured parts would be washed away and the metal plate could be polished, which would then give a negative image, and then this negative image could be printed on a piece of paper or other material. Later, other inks and types of chemicals that could be used to print images more efficiently were developed. Later, cameras became more popular as people began wanting self-portraits of themselves or family portraits. It became a major business and would be very successful. But one of the biggest changes came when Kodak invented the first “point-and-shoot cameras,” which allowed people to take a photo immediately and post it later. This gave photographers a greater opportunity to take better photos as the...... middle of paper ...... both future. Works Cited "Digital Photography". Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Internet.
