In the guard environment, a team will go through different stages of development. Get an Original Essay The speed at which each team moves through the stages depends on the team members and their individual skills, the work they are expected to do, and the type of leadership available to the team. These stages of team development are: Training – At the initial stage of training; individuals get to know each other; therefore, they will be unsure of each other and their roles and responsibilities within the team, in which case the team leader will provide advice and support; in order to maintain team cohesion.Storming – This is the most important stage during which different team members get to know each other. Challenges will begin to arise, such as personality conflicts, differences of opinion, and perhaps an uncomfortable atmosphere between them. Blame could easily be placed on the team lead or manager as an easy way out because their position is perceived to be different from the rest of the team. Standardization – At this stage, the team begins to find its feet and have a sense of direction. The ideas that were given during the storming phase are starting to come together, in which case you can move away from this stage to have a more cordial relationship. If this stage can develop, the team will begin to feel more positive. Performing – In this stage, each team member begins to apply themselves to the work and complete the task at hand. As they now know each other very well, they will take on different roles and responsibilities. Mourning/Adjournment – This step was added later, when a team comes to an end. If a team member is about to leave or a new member joins, you will likely go through a stage of grieving, looking forward to the future and the challenges it may present. At this point, you may feel some negativity among team members in order to cope and feel better about their departure.
