    Smartphones are everywhere, regardless of location; from Tibet to New York to rural Nebraska. Smartphones have become common property among the general public as they have become more readily available. They allow us to be productive on the go, connect with loved ones and acquaintances, and share memories as we create them. However, the creation of the laptops we call smartphones has many implications. Many judicial laws have not been updated with technological developments that make it possible to deal with unforeseen circumstances. The smartphone has revolutionized society's productivity levels, communication, both socially and virtually, as well as ease of portability, but has brought about many new problems including legal problems, social etiquette and problems of health. This history of the smartphone goes back before the term the smartphone was even invented with the telephone. The first of these devices was the IBM Simon. This primitive device had a touch screen that allowed interaction with applications such as a clock, a calendar, and a telephone book. It even included a block moving game called Scramble. Additionally, the device had predictive text in its most primitive form, which would attempt to guess your next set of characters as you typed. The touchscreen was used by a stylus which would further allow you to use a number pad to make calls. In fact, the Simon was way ahead of its time. There was capacity for memory cards that would expand the phone's applications. The IBM Simon was resold in 1993 for a retail price of $899 and was considered by most to be "bulky and heavy".
