Thousands of people died. The only reason is that it was a different political party. There are terrible savings. People are suffering and have very little hope. Genocide is the only reason. Everything could have been avoided if the genocide had not existed. The world basically ignored the genocide and pretended it never happened because they didn't want to spend money. Thousands of people could still be alive if the world intervened to help the victims of this horrific crime. Rwanda was a peaceful country until the start of the civil war. Belgium then took control of Rwanda and gave the leadership of the government to the Tutsis because they had more European characteristics like the Belgian population (Anderson 1). This upset the Hutus, who then accused the Tutsis of being responsible for the assassination of the president. The Rwandan genocide then began on April 6, 1994. It lasted for 100 brutal days. The Hutus then began to massacre the Tutsis because there was no government control, so it was the perfect time to rebel. There were two Hutu rebellion forces called Interhamwe which means “Those who attack together” and Impuzamugami which means “Those who have the same objective”. Many people killed their loved ones. Colleagues killed colleagues, friends killed friends, neighbors killed neighbors, and the husband killed his wife. They did this to save their own lives. They would have been killed themselves if they had not killed the one they were told to kill (Rosenberg 1). According to Factsbits, Hutu leaders manipulated other Hutus into killing their family, friends, and acquaintances.
