During 4 years in JROTC, I developed my self-confidence and strengthened my leadership. Service learning has impacted my life to become a better citizen and help the community. JROTC has helped me to have self-discipline and always be responsible for my actions and actions. JROTC teaches you not to lie, cheat or steal and to always be honest with yourself and others. Service learning enhances the students' academic program or the educational components of the community service program in which participants are enrolled. My classmates and I had the opportunity to participate in community service activities at Cleveland High School. JROTC requires that service within the community be enhanced by requiring all cadets to participate in a service-learning project. Service learning brings academics to life and is driven by student engagement. Students have a direct impact on an identified need that interests and motivates them. This requires sequential lessons organized so that orientation and training precede the meaningful service activity and structured reflection follows the activity. Service learning fulfills a regional community or industry need and is linked to the student's course work. General volunteering is simply serving the community. For example, volunteering at a soup kitchen begins and ends with what one does at the soup kitchen. Service learning is not and ends with service rendered.
