Think Globally and Act LocallyThe maxim of thinking globally and acting locally has been reinforced with great success within MTV Networks International. It positioned itself as a globally acceptable television network and dominated the entertainment market across the world. Young people from different countries enjoy MTV shows and programs. However, this has had both negative and positive effects on young people. Globalization has led to an increasing connection between the world's different populations. This means that young people need to be informed about what is happening in the wider environment. Young people have borrowed and shared good ideas and innovations across the world under the maxim of thinking globally and acting locally. But in the same vein, young people have shared and borrowed negative ideas. The media affects an entire nation, including the youth, as their way of reasoning and attitudes towards different issues are influenced. Some influences may be positive, while others may be negative. It is therefore important that people accept the positive impacts and do something to control the negative influences. Globalization is therefore neither an enemy nor a dragon to be condemned. This simply requires that different nations be subject to appropriate controls and measures to protect their youth and adolescents from the negative effects that may arise from Westernization. The MTV networks have brought together many cultures around the world through their shows and advertisements. Some people have complained that MTV shows have brought such a Western influence to young people. As much as we say that they think globally and act locally, young people seem to think globally and act globally. Ideas, cultures and v...... middle of paper ......t for entertainment. On the other hand, piracy problems will increase with the increase in iPod and DVD usage. Studios have taken different approaches to piracy and copy protection in different countries. In the future, different countries will need to review copyright and piracy issues. New guidelines and rules governing iPod and DVD use will need to be established. The entertainment industry has felt and will continue to feel the greatest impact from iPod and DVD technologies.
