Essay / Bravery in The Red Badge of Courage and in My Life
Courage is the pure will of man to persevere in the face of danger. It is a person's courage, worth, and self-reliance that constitute the foundation of courage. This is the quality of the hero and the ideal of the soldier. Courage is a quality of spirit expressed through a man's girth and temerity in the face of difficult challenges. The courageous person knows how to stand firm and easily accept extreme conditions. He or she must be proficient in the art of self-defense and be able to take and take a few punches. At the beginning of Stephan Crane's famous novel, The Red Badge of Courage, the main character, Henry Flemming, secretly lacks this quality. He hides his fear from the rest of his squadron even though he knows the grave crime of fleeing battle. He nevertheless fled. Through a long series of denials and remorse, he finds his true courage in the final victory of his regiment. He reflects on his past experiences, good and bad, and basks in the pride of having finally earned his own red badge of courage. Say no to plagiarism. When I was younger, my brother and I picked peaches on our screened-in roof. It was quite high for a little boy and we only had an old rickety barrel to use as a ladder. When we were finished, my brother decided to jump off the roof and walked towards the barrel, revealing a narrow but deep trench that double the height of the roof. You can only imagine my fear. I begged my brother to replace the barrel, but he insisted I jump. I was pretty sure a fall like that would break something. I refused to jump. Later my father came and encouraged me to jump as well. I had no choice. I looked once at the ground, then straight ahead. I gritted my teeth, held my breath, and jumped as far as I could. I touched the ground with both feet and kept my balance. I was fine. I almost laughed at my stupidity. The jump wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Looking back on the whole episode, I realize that it was the bravest thing I've ever had to do (and, now that I think about it, it's pretty pathetic). It’s still a great example of courage. Overcoming your fears and standing strong is one of the main foundations of courage. True courage is not a physical attribute. It’s doing what you know is right despite your shortcomings. The battlefields of courage are limitless. It could be a war zone, a political campaign, or even a school. Call it what you may: courage, courage, backbone, nerve, etc. Courage is a person's complete and focused spirit towards a cause or goal. Courage lies neither in the brain nor in the brawn, but in the heart. This is what motivates the initiative.
