Essay / Technology in the Classroom - 786
In the words of Bill Gates, “any tool that improves communication has profound effects on how people can learn from each other.” Technology is a tool that facilitates the acquisition of knowledge and becomes an essential element of learning. Students should learn using methods that grab their attention. Methods such as technology make it easier for students and allow for a more engaging learning experience. Technology in the classroom gives students a better chance of succeeding, reduces costs for students and teachers, and allows students to be more engaged in class. Technology is an integral part of modern society and its use in classrooms should be encouraged to improve the learning environment. Using technology in the classroom has a huge impact on student development and puts them in the best position to succeed. . With access to technology, students are able to record lessons or lectures, providing them with "tremendous flexibility that is lacking in in-person classes and, based on [a Ph.D. student's] experience ], can significantly increase students' efficiency and learning gains” (Levy). With technology, students are able to review these courses or lessons and study more efficiently. This shows them the concepts they have learned and it gives them the opportunity to relearn lessons they may have forgotten. This improves the student's chances of doing well on tests or final exams. Additionally, in the job market, many "employers require their employees to perform many of their normal daily tasks using computers" (Niznik). If schools begin to integrate more technology, such as laptops and computers, into the classroom, students will become familiar with how...... middle of paper..... . and will reduce the risk of a student falling behind in class. It gives the student access to missed class work and assignments, ultimately giving them responsibility for their own grades. Additionally, “70% of teens (ages 13-17)… now own a smartphone” (Nielson) and if teachers can find a way to use these phones in the classroom, they will be more successful in attracting attention of their students. With so many teenagers interested in technology, schools need to understand that students will be more attracted to teaching methods that incorporate these technologies. Experts have also proven that there is a "strong and positive relationship between students' interest in a talent area and their assessment of their skills in that area" (Siegle), thus proving that if students receive technology in a class, the easier the class becomes for them. them.
