Essay / Reflecting on my personal experience in writing...
These questions were: Is it acceptable to assume that a student knows what a "preposition" is or understands the term "subject-verb agreement and is it better, in terms of diagnosing students' writing and timing errors, for the student to read the entire article or stop at each paragraph? These questions came up through observation because, regarding the first question, the tutors jumped straight into the session using terms like "parallel structure" and "possessive nouns" and I always wondered if the tutor could do justice to these terms by defining and using examples. to make the term more concrete for the student. So my answer to the question is that I will always ask students if they understand what I am saying and let them know that it is okay to stop me at any point during the session to explain anything I have said . The second question arose because in sessions where the tutor had the student read the entire document at once, the tutor usually went back and reread the sentences and paragraphs. In sessions where the tutor had the article read paragraph by paragraph, the session was better managed, in terms of time, and made it easier for students to focus on errors in the organization of their article. So my answer to this question is that I will ask students to read their articles paragraph by paragraph.,
