Essay / Importance of Cosmetology - 1186
Cold process soap is naturally alkaline with a pH of around 9-10. This pH helps to gently cleanse the skin. The results were obtained by testing the pH level using pH paper of the neutralized and crude types of the three soaps. The color of the pH paper was then linked to the pH paper level key located on the pH paper tube. A pH level of 7.0 indicates a fully neutralized substance and a pH level above 7.0 indicates a substance that is not neutralized. Each of the soaps was made from three different types of triglycerides: shortening, castor oil, and lard. Of these three types of soaps, there were raw soaps which had not undergone the neutralization process, and neutralized soaps which had undergone the process. An unexpected aspect was the fact that the professional made generic soap when tested in a test tube with water, but he failed to do so.
