  • Essay / A Devoted Son - 708

Anita Desai, an exceptional writer, has written many stories. The one referenced in the textbook, A Devoted Son, is simply a short story about a boy in India who had won a scholarship to an academic career which he then pursued. However, having said that, the son in the text becomes a doctor of sorts. With this young man's education, he will have to make a choice in history, which will lead him to take care of his father. Between the original planning of A Devoted Son and the final product, written by Anita Desai, she actually had a different outcome than she expected. In fact, when Desai was planning her writing, it was very different from what she was used to. A short story, like A Devoted Son, was a very difficult thing, but it was a contemporary story that will probably be used in future texts. Again, between his original text, A Devoted Son and the final product, there are many differences and similarities in which the story was written: the old man had lost his mind, the son stayed to take care of his father , and finally the old man had lost his mind. embarrassed his family by roaming the streets. First, in the text A Devoted Son, Rakesh's old man had lost his mind. Throughout the text, we understand that as his old man grows older, he becomes weaker every day of his life. A good analogy to think about is that we often think of our parents as taking care of us; however, in many cases it is quite the opposite. We actually take care of our parents, that's usually how it happens as our parents get older. However, in the text A Devoted Son it says: "Of course these conversations, bawled through the hedge by two rather deaf old men, aware that their whole household heard them..."
