  • Essay / Literary Analysis of the Poem We Real Cool by Brooks

In the poem Brook, write “We Real Cool”, “Sing Sin”. The expression “we sing of sin” sounds like my childhood because when I was 13 or 11, I lived in the projects, I had a friend called Erick. Me and Erick when we went to school together singing dirty rap songs from 50 Cent or Slim Shady we thought we were the coolest kids in school we also had a group called the bad guys boys. Every time Erick arrived at my house in the morning, as we exited the building before taking the stairs, we kicked a random door and ran down the stairs as fast as possible, we never got caught. We also had each other's backs if one of us was fighting and someone jumped into one of us to try to even out the odds. Also, the phrase "we will die soon" sounds a lot like my childhood, just like me and Erick weren't the best example of how to behave. Personally I wasn't in the right environment, I say that because it was always someone getting shot. or people fighting and anything that happens in the neighborhood, like people selling drugs or doing drugs right in front of you. Personally, they didn't care how old you were or who you were, if they did it in front of you. In conclusion, I am most drawn to We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks because of the theme the author uses to tell her story. She uses identification, mortality, which makes the story more interesting and brought back scenes from my childhood. The second reason is the message the author communicates to the audience, my last reason is that it resembles my childhood. Although literature can be found everywhere, the poem is very interesting, in my opinion it is one of the best literatures I have read.
