  • Essay / Letter to Aunt Bessie

November 1906 Chicago Dear Aunt Bessie, We live in a time of growth and politicians creating laws to help our society. There have been numerous demonstrations, amendments, political machines, reforms and denigrations to denounce what is wrong in our country. Many movements are underway. I believe that the movements against child labor, living conditions and women's right to vote are the most deserving. I believe that the $600,000 should be donated to the Movement for Living Conditions. Say no to plagiarism. Get a custom essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? Many people are homeless and, reportedly, in 1904 one in three people was on the verge of starvation. Many children often slept in “dormitory cabins.” This reform will also help the homeless in our country. Aunt Bessie, I believe this reform deserves the $600,000 because no one deserves to live without shelter or a roof over their head. I think $300,000 should go to the Child Labor Movement. The anti-child labor movement attempts to prevent children from working by creating strict laws. No child should work if they are under 14 years old. Industrialization did not create child labor, but it contributed to the need for child workers. Working children are generally 10-14 years old. However, some children are as young as seven years old. Some children had to lie about their age just so they could find a job that would help them support their families. Children often come home sick, injured and have worked long hours. It also prevents children from receiving an education. It also decreases the chances of having another generation of children. I believe this movement deserves $300,000 because children do not need to work in jobs like in the mines or in long-term jobs. I think the $100,000 should go to the Women's Suffrage Movement. The women's suffrage movement attempted to gain women's right to vote. Many people are tortured for no reason. In 1848, there was the Seneca Falls Convention to support women's rights. Two very important women are helping us make this dream come true. These two women are Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Women are still judged by their gender, we should be allowed to vote even if we are women. We are no different from men. I believe this movement deserves a chance and $100,000 because we deserve a vote.
