  • Essay / Battle of Bunker Hill Essay - 1309

The Americans were smart in using the cover of darkness to begin taking Bunker Hill and building the redoubt on it and were able to construct a strong source of cover and concealment (the redoubt) for the battle against the British. The Americans also had all avenues of approach covered and secure in order to respond to an attack directly against them or against their rear and flank positions. However, the Americans were not adequately supplied for an encounter as large as this against the British army, which is amply supplied. The British had the upper hand in many areas such as manpower, supply, and chain of command, all of which are critical to the tactical assault on Bunker Hill. The British managed to capture the hill and take control of the area, but were also badly affected by many losses. Nevertheless, the Americans lost this battle, but were able to realize that they were capable of confronting and defeating the British Empire if they had the right leadership and equipment; this gave American forces a huge morale boost, which proved useful for the duration of the American War.
