Lifespan Development: Physical: Older adults slow down physically and have lower energy levels. There are changes in the body's systems and organs that can generally lead to all types of diseases. There is usually visual and hearing loss, loss of taste and smell, reaction time, and loss of balance. Most individuals at this stage suffer from some type of chronic illness. Alzheimer's disease and dementia become more prevalent with age. Individuals may experience tooth loss and poor diet. Wrinkles begin to develop as well as difficulty sleeping at night. Social/Cultural: At the stadium, older people don't interact with others as much. They love to be with their family and friends for their support and love. They are more interested in being around people who can help them improve their emotional state. They're not really interested in going out a lot and moving around a lot. Many in late adulthood have retired and become involved with the younger members of their family. Some older adults may still need to work to meet their financial needs. Environment: Older people are more attached to their home and have a place where they have satisfaction...... middle of article...... th. Final thoughts about the course from a counseling perspective: I really learned a lot of information from this course. Lots of information has helped me understand myself and others. I have to admit that I see some situations and circumstances a little different now. I understand a little better some of the things my children are going through in life right now. This course has really enlightened me on a lot of things in my life at this point. I will use this same information to help me empathize and help my students as a school counselor. I will be able to recognize the types of developmental issues my students may be facing and provide the appropriate intervention plan to help them succeed academically.
