The pituitary gland is located in the brain and hangs below the hypothalamus. This gland is also called the master gland since it is responsible for controlling growth and regulating the activity of other glands in the body. The pituitary gland is always controlled by information sent to the hypothalamus. It is known that the adrenal glands are responsible for changing energy levels, mood, and how well a person is able to handle stress. The adrenal glands release adrenaline and norepinephrine. Adrenaline works by stimulating organs made of smooth muscle, such as the stomach, heart and intestines. Noradrenaline interacts with the liver and pituitary gland to control a wide variety of internal sensations in the body. Since the hormones secreted by the adrenal glands are vital in emergencies, they also function as neurotransmitters. Once adrenaline and norepinephrine are transformed into neurotransmitters, they become epinephrine and norepinephrine.
