Essay / Macbeth Tragic Hero Essay - 1154
Macbeth was considered a tragic hero because he fought honorably for Duncan to become king against the invading forces and for his bravery in the battle that would later become the Thane Cawdor, but one of his tragic flaws is that he lets his wife control his ambitious desires. As the play continued, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were good people with very poor judgment, described as "that dead butcher and his daemon like a queen." The fall was not caused by evil but by their ambition against Macbeth, sparked by the witch. prophecy. Macbeth did not know whether or not he should kill Duncan in order for him to become king, because of Macbeth's wicked behavior it led him to become a murderer. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth and Banquo return. Hail, Thane of Cawdor!! All hail Macbeth, he will be king from now on” (A1 S3 48) Macbeth was certainly interested in what the witches had said, but yet he didn't really believe them. A few minutes or so pass and Ross (Macbeth's cousin) tells Macbeth that the thane of Cawdor is about to die and that Duncan has appointed Macbeth as the new thane of Cawdor. Macbeth is shocked that all of the witch's prophecies have come true. Although the only way for Macbeth to get rid of Duncan is to kill him. At this point, Lady Macbeth knew quite well what the witches' prophecies were. She herself really wanted to become Queen of Scotland, so she encourages Macbeth to do everything to get rid of Duncan. Lady Macbeth puts enough pressure and influence on Macbeth to do this. Eventually, Macbeth gives in to Lady Macbeth and decides that he will kill Duncan during her visit. Macbeth's Castle that same night Macbeth showed courage when he fought against the trader who had betrayed the king. He fights with the Thane of Cawdor and he ends up winning. Macbeth first says that he will not fight but Macduff insists by saying "then give in, coward..." (A5 S8 23) Macbeth replies "I will not give in..." (A5 S8 28) Macbeth finally realizes what 'he caused and how all the prophecies said by the witches and the apparitions all came true, but he will not give up like a coward. He will fight like the great warrior he once was to remain king and will fight until he dies! Macbeth at least believes that he cannot be defeated by Macduff because of the witches' prophecy. Macbeth cannot be killed by a man born of a woman. Even though Macbeth knows his rational side, his situation is hopeless. He begins the fight with Macduff, but remains aware that he will not be defeated and will strip him of his position as king. After continually listening to Macbeth boast about his charmed life, Macduff informs Macbeth that he was not born of woman and that his mother died in childbirth before Macduff was born. Nevertheless, Macbeth confronts Macduff and fights nobly, the fight moves off stage and the result is not known until a few minutes later when Macduff enters the stage carrying Macbeth's head "Macbeth is thus slain, and Scotland is purified from evil” and Malcolm then becomes king of Scotland. In conclusion, the prophecies given to him by the witches. Macbeth was a good hero of character because of his honor and courage, as well as his intensified ambition, all of which contributed greatly to his degeneration except one.
