In the book “Does the Border Experience Make America Exceptional?” » we are presented with six different essays on the American frontier. The title of the book alone is thought provoking because it gets the brain thinking about the border and gets the reader thinking about this question. I found the book easy to read and very thought provoking to the point where you started to wonder if your opinion was right. To me, this book seemed to be designed more to be read before class and discussed in a public environment, rather than being a book you would read in private. I also felt that the book was not as much of a history book, but rather a great example of debate. Each essay in the book begins with a question to get the reader thinking. The first essay is Fredrick Jackson Turners essay on "The Significance of the Frontier in American History" and it asks the question: How did the idea of the "frontier" come about?
