Essay / Reading: An Essential Part of Life - 2388
Reading is an enjoyable activity and yet an essential part of life, as it is important for survival in the modern world. As Rohal Dahl quoted: “Books...if you want to become something, they are vital in life” (www.stlwritersguild.org 11/13/10). Children should be encouraged to read from a young age because the ability to read allows them to access information, become fluent speakers, and become creative writers. A study by Eckhoff (1983) of second graders demonstrates this by examining the writing of two different groups: one who read a highly simplified textbook while the other read a text containing many literary forms. The results showed that children were exposed to various forms of literature. literary forms, seemed more capable of using different literary forms in their writing than those who were presented with simplified texts (www.vtaide.com 4/11/10). Reading played an important role in my life, especially during the early stages. of my intellectual development. One of the first books I was introduced to was hardback picture books. These books contained names of everyday objects as well as images allowing me to recognize objects in the house. Nursery rhymes such as: Old MacDonald, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Jack and Jill and many others were also part of this reading journey. My mother particularly loved reciting them to me, while I began to be absorbed by the pretty pictures in my book of nursery rhymes. I also enjoyed the musical ambiance they created, which over time allowed me to easily grasp the words, allowing me to recite the rhymes on my own. As Carl Sagan quoted: "One of the greatest gifts that adults can give to their offspring and to their society is to read to children"... middle of paper ...... there continues, Stephy and Callum are starting to grow up. become closer and fall in love, but racial segregation between the two races poses a major problem with the birth of their child Rose. As the story progresses, Rose grew up and quickly began to discover her heritage, which leads her into even more danger. Malorie Blackman is quite a creative writer, as she began to distort racial history. In this series, she made black people more superior while making white people inferior. In conclusion, I am starting to notice a drastic change in my reading pattern, because during my early years I started reading various fiction books, but this pattern has changed and I am now starting to engage in books which reflect the realities of life and the current world in which we live. I look forward to expanding this reading journey and improving my current knowledge through reading..
