    “Racism is still among us. But it’s up to us to prepare our children for what they must face and hopefully overcome. –Rosa Parks-As a child, there are memories that really stand out, some bad, some good. There was a time when I remember waking up every morning before sunrise with my grandmother Thina to make handmade tortillas, she would knead and flatten the dough while I played with the little piece that she gave it to me and smelled like pasty flour, it was a great memory. . Another memory I will never forget, I was about nine years old. It was a beautiful spring day and there was still a large group walking with us when we noticed two guys in Santa costumes driving very slowly behind us. As they walked past us it felt like something was wrong, they looked me straight in the eye and I could feel the hatred as he took a drink from his beer bottle and he screamed “Spic” as loud as he could. and threw the beer bottle at us and they came loose.
